Train collides with a truck and derails – eight injured

Shock moment at the Polish border: a train collides with a truck at a level crossing and derails – eight people are injured.

Stettin / Berlin – In a train accident on the railway line from Stettin (Szczecin) to Berlin, eight people were injured on Thursday morning.

As a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn AG said in Berlin, a regional train with 39 passengers collided with a truck at a level crossing and derailed. According to initial investigations, the truck driver in the Polish village of Kolbaskowo drove over the open crossing immediately at the border and had overlooked the train. Travelers should now expect disabilities on the Berlin-Stettin railway line until August 8th.

Seven travelers and the train driver of the Deutsche Bahn AG multiple unit were injured, the spokesman said. They are said to have mainly suffered minor injuries such as abrasions and bruises.

The truck driver was able to leave his vehicle on his own. In the collision, the first railcar was very badly damaged, the second railcar was also slightly deformed, it was said. The amount of damage is unclear.

Travelers should be able to continue traveling by train from Berlin to Angermünde, and bus services will be set up from Angermünde via Tantow (Uckermark) to Stettin. The Polish city of Stettin can otherwise be reached from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania via the east-west railway line from Neubrandenburg via Pasewalk to Grambow. dpa
