The arrival of Luca de Meo at Renault , signed directly after the success achieved at Seat and the launch of Cupra as an independent firm, has revolutionized the French law firms of the diamond. Soon he had a strategy for the future, called Renaulution, which he presented to the specialized press and the industry bosses. In it, it focuses attention on the really interesting segments economically speaking, reducing the presence of utility models in the range at the same time that it is committed to the mobility of the future: electrification. The Renault 5 Prototype was the prelude to what was to come, and it left us all wanting to become an automatic reality. De Meo, however, has other plans that go through the presentation of the Renault MeganE .
A few days ago we told you about our driving impressions of the current Renault Megane. A compact that fights in the most fought segment of the market, with alternatives such as the Seat León, Ford Focus, Kia Ceed and many others. This new MeganE says goodbye to the piece of cake in which it has always found itself to jump into the crossover world. As we have seen in the photos leaked by the firm during the ‘eEays ElectroPop’ conference , this is a raised body with clear SUV connotations.
Based on the Megane eVision
We soon detected the similarities with the Megane eVision concept car , which advanced the design and conceptual lines that the rhombus wants to be in the field of electrification. For now it preserves, and much, the light signature that we see in current French models, with the significant change of the digital rhombus in the center of an opaque grill. The exaggeratedly vertical front has sporty air intakes in the bumper area , which sports an attractive geometric pattern as well as forceful.
It is electric, and as such, it has a charging socket on the right wheel arch. It also sports huge wheels (we do not know inches) and fairing to benefit the aerodynamics of the set . A body that seems to bet on the simplicity of its lines and the minimalism that is repeated so much before the appearance of electric motors. Yes, we like, in principle, the drop of the coupe-style roof that gives it a sporty and dynamic air in the purest Renault RS style , something that the yellow decoration of the prototype shown helps.
Digitization and neatness
During that same conference the first images of the interior of this future MeganE were seen . It looks like a more spacious car, which still includes the vertical center screen but with neater and more direct lines. Through an inverted L-shape this infotainment system is connected to the instrumentation , only separated by the ventilation grille integrated into the set. It’s a significant and futuristic change for Renault interiors, so we hope to see it in person soon.
Luca de Meo assured that the platform used for this MeganE has broken the rules of size, use and design so far known in the signature of the rhombus. We speak of the same architecture that is used for the Nissan Ariya , as they share technology as part of the Alliance. The president wanted to leave us with the expectation, so he announced that this MeganE will be able to recover 200 kilometers of autonomy in 30 minutes, in a 130 kW DC charger .
