Sweden's youngest Prince Julian baptized

The youngest son of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia is four and a half months old. Now Prince Julian has been baptized.

Stockholm – Sweden’s youngest Prince Julian was baptized on Saturday. Before the eyes of the assembled royal family, the almost four and a half month old son of Prince Carl Philip (42) and Princess Sofia (36) was accepted into the Christian community in the church of Drottningholm Palace.

As can be seen in a photo on the website of the Swedish broadcaster SVT, Mama Sophia was holding the little prince in a white dress over the baptismal font while Bishop Johan Dalman performed the ritual. Pastor Michael Bjerkhagen and Papa Carl Philip held hands over the little boy. The altar and baptismal font were decorated with colorful flower arrangements. To match, Princess Sophia also wore a white dress embroidered with floral patterns.

The third son of Carl Philip and Sofia was born on March 26th in Stockholm. The grandson of King Carl XVI. Gustaf (75) is number seven in the Swedish line of succession after Crown Princess Victoria, her children Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar as well as his father and brothers Alexander and Gabriel.

Carl Gustaf decided in autumn 2019 that some of his grandchildren should no longer officially belong to the royal family. This meant that the offspring of Princess Madeleine and her husband Christopher O’Neill as well as Carl Philip and Sofia do not have to exercise royal official duties at the highest level. Prince Julian is therefore not part of the royal family and is not considered Royal Highness, but is a member of the royal family. dpa
