Search for missing person continues

It is not the first time that a wave rushes through the Höllentalklamm on the Zugspitze after heavy rain – but this time it costs human lives: a woman is dead, another person is missing.

Grainau – After the tidal wave in the Höllentalklamm, the emergency services want to continue the search for a missing person on Wednesday. However, the operation will be much smaller than the two days before, said a police spokeswoman.

The rescue workers filmed and photographed the gorge from the air with the help of drones. For example, some shadows were sighted, which one now wants to pursue. The gorge should be searched selectively at these points, the spokeswoman said. However, fewer emergency services are required for this than before.

On Tuesday afternoon, the rescuers had initially stopped the search. A woman was previously rescued from the water, dead. According to the police, the body should be autopsied on Wednesday. A missing person report fits the dead person very closely.

Eight people were rescued from the gorge near Grainau in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district on Monday evening after the accident. The police are currently assuming another missing person. Although it cannot be completely ruled out that other people could have been swept away by the tidal wave, the spokeswoman emphasized. dpa
