In order to build package bombs on food companies, a man is said to have scraped off match heads. The electrician probably wanted to extort money with the attacks. Now he’s going to court.
Heidelberg – Because he allegedly wanted to extort money from food companies with self-made explosives and injured several people in the process, a man is being tried.
The 66-year-old will have to answer before the regional court in Heidelberg from Wednesday for causing an explosive explosion, dangerous bodily harm and attempted serious bodily harm. The German faces a prison sentence of up to 15 years. In order to produce the explosives mass, the electrician is said to have scraped off match heads.
On February 16, a man was injured by a deflagration in the goods receiving department of the beverage manufacturer ADM Wild in Eppelheim in the Rhein-Neckar district while accepting a package. According to the court, he suffered minor skin injuries and a blast trauma and is said to be unable to work due to persistent complaints.
A day later, a letter exploded when opening in the Lidl headquarters in Neckarsulm in the Heilbronn district. Three people were injured. According to the court, an employee was injured in his left eye, both hands and legs. He also suffered a pop trauma and severe tinnitus. The two colleagues are also said to have been injured with pop trauma. A third parcel, which was addressed to the baby food manufacturer Hipp in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in Upper Bavaria, was intercepted and defused in a parcel distribution center at Munich Airport.
The prosecutor assumes that the man built the explosive devices himself. He posted the three parcels on February 15 at a post office in Ulm and sent them to the company under threat of further acts of violence against employees and / or customers. He had accepted that people would be injured by the explosions when opening the packages. In this way, the man wanted to force money from the companies.
Shortly after the attacks, the police arrested the suspect from the Ulm area. He is in custody. During a search of his home, ammunition was discovered, according to the court. Eleven follow-up dates are currently planned for the procedure until mid-November. The chamber summoned 47 witnesses and 3 experts. dpa
