Considering that WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging application in the world , it is normal that scams and fraudulent messages appear practically every day. It is not about a WhatsApp failure, but about the people who use the app to steal users’ personal data. For example, in the month of July a message that contained a fraudulent link to an alleged survey went viral to obtain a € 500 voucher from El Corte Inglés.
We can say that WhatsApp is a very safe application, and the vast majority of errors that are detected are from the people who use it , not from the app itself. However, this time it is different.
The company has discovered a “critical flaw” in the application itself that can leave users’ data private, and even their conversations in chats . A very big problem that would even allow the sending of images to be exploited to lock the phone.
Luckily, WhatsApp has already managed to fix the bug with the new version . As the CheckPoint security specialists explain, all we have to do is update the application on our device.
Phones on which WhatsApp will stop working on November 1
The company is currently working on many functions that will soon come to the application , such as multi-device mode or sending money in the purest Bizum style.
To this must be added that WhatsApp has announced that, as of November 1, 2021, it will cease to be operational on phones with Android 4.0.4 operating system , launched in 2012: « As of November 1, 2021, WhatsApp will no longer be compatible with phones with Android 4.0.4 and earlier versions. Please switch to a compatible device or save your chat history before then .
What phones does it affect? They are: ZTE Grand X Pro, Huawei Ascend G615, Huawei Honor 2, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, and Lenovo 1660 .
As for iOS, at the moment WhatsApp has not announced any changes. It is enough to have an iPhone with iOS 10 or a later version , that is, from iPhone 5 onwards.
