Düsseldorf: Further investigations after a weapon was found

The police found a weapon in a Düsseldorf hotel and arrested a man. Special forces combed the building for hours and examined suspicious luggage.

Düsseldorf – After a weapon was found and a large-scale police operation in a Düsseldorf hotel, the investigation will continue on Saturday.

Most of the emergency services had withdrawn on site, said a police spokesman in the morning. "The measures at the hotel have largely been completed". The spokesman did not initially provide any further information about the state of the investigation and a man arrested on Friday.

A firearm was discovered on Friday in a room in the hotel in the Oberbilk district. Several special task forces (SEK) advanced and combed the cleared building. The police found "at least one" suspicious suitcase that is being examined by explosives experts, it said on Friday. The police spokesman did not give any further details on Saturday morning.

The arrested man, to whom the weapon is attributed, had "not yet appeared to the police," it said on Friday. dpa
