On September 8, a large forest fire started in the municipalities of Jubrique, Genalguacil and Estepona in southern Spain. This Copernicus Sentinel-2 image, captured on September 10, shows some of the fires near Estepona. The image has been processed by combining bands of natural colors with short-wave infrared information to highlight the fire front.
In response to the fires, the Copernicus Emergency Mapping Service was activated. The service uses satellite observations to help civil protection authorities and, in cases of disaster, the international humanitarian community, to respond to emergencies.
