Gottschalk's nostalgia party – "Wetten, dass ..?" On ZDF

“Wetten, dass ..?” Returns once more to the screen. For the 40th birthday of the legendary Saturday evening show, entertainer Thomas Gottschalk is hosting a special edition.

Nuremberg – time travel on ZDF: The television audience can feel transported back to the golden years of “Wetten dass ..?” For an evening. Moderator Thomas Gottschalk gathers top stars and brave betting candidates around him again, co-host Michelle Hunziker whirls at his side.

And of course an excavator is also required. Everything as it used to be, when “Wetten dass ..?” Was a street sweeper and attracted 10 to 20 million visitors from across the generations in front of the television sets. The show revival should go live on Saturday (November 6th, 8:15 pm) in Nuremberg.

Actually, the special should have taken place a year ago, but the corona pandemic thwarted ZDF’s bill. “Wetten dass ..?” Could not be an emergency issue, said Gottschalk at the time. It has to be a party, a nostalgia party at that. “I said a lot of stupid things, but I enjoyed it and everyone who watched it.”

Gottschalk’s casual, flippant sayings are as legendary as his weird outfits and the bets with which viewers made it into the show. In addition to excavators, there were plenty of beer crates, glasses and trucks. The candidates could twitch songs with their chest muscles, stack washing machines or slobber water from the bowl – in competition with a dog. In general, it was often beastly with “Wetten dass ..?”. When a man recognized his cows by their smacking noises while they were chewing apples, Gottschalk commented very dryly: “Tomorrow she will give apple juice instead of milk.”

Gottschalk doesn’t want to be cool

The show legend now wants to build on these old times. “I have remained the one you” know from the past “and only that is what I can present to the audience. And not a new version that makes you look cool, ”he said in advance in an interview with the German press agency.

ZDF is also continuing the tradition with guests and bringing national and international stars to the show. Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney used to be guests, but now the ABBA grandees Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson are doing the honors and are reporting on their comeback after 40 years. Schlager queen Helene Fischer is also coming to Nuremberg, as is rocker Udo Lindenberg.

According to a representative survey by the polling institute Forsa on behalf of the “Hörzu” magazine, 54 percent of the citizens surveyed would be interested in an annual special edition of “Wetten dass ..?”. Gottschalk himself was recently covered when asked whether he could imagine presenting “Wetten dass ..?” Again more often. It remains exciting. dpa
