We are about to close a year like no other: the year we experienced a pandemic. But also, it is a year that gave us an unexpected gift, because by sending us home, we became even closer .
Thanks to this, not only were we able to spend more time with the family, we also had a golden opportunity: to get to know our children more. 17 mothers share with us what they learned about their children this year.
Children full of dreams and aspirations
By being with them, some mothers were able to discover their children’s talents and passions . Like Berenice, who discovered that her four-year-old daughter has a great talent for storytelling, and that she loves to tell stories
Or like Alejandra, who, having conversations with her daughter, learned that she wanted to be a doctor or teacher, and that she is a very confident and brave girl, full of big dreams.
In the case of Mónica, who is the mother of two children, she learned that despite the onset of the pandemic being difficult for everyone, the older one brought out his creative and sensitive side, while the youngest showed a lot of intelligence and adaptation for school .
For Sarai, the pandemic gave her the opportunity to get to know her children better, discovering that the oldest loves helping her in the kitchen and the youngest has a passion and love for dance and dancing.
Although the shared experiences were different for each person, I noticed that many mothers agree on certain things in particular about our children: their strengths and what really brings them happiness.
They are stronger and capable than we think
This is a lesson that many mothers had from their children: to realize that they are much stronger and more capable than we think. Zulema, for example, discovered that her one-year-old son is more independent than she believed and must let him explore without being overprotective.
For Karen, the mom of a two-year-old, what she learned about her son is that by allowing him to do things on his own and not be on top of him all the time, he became more confident and independent.
In Nora’s case, the strength and sensitivity of her son helped her cope with the death of her two grandparents , since her little one has been in charge of giving her a lot of love and comfort when she notices that she is sad: ” in his own way, he alone wants to lighten my load, I didn’t think my little one was so strong, independent and capable, “he says.
Your adaptability, resilience and responsibility
Another thing that mothers have discovered about their children, and that we have discussed on other occasions, is their incredible adaptability and the responsibility they have shown to have in the situation we are experiencing.
Monica, mother of a child, says it perfectly: ” Children are wise in relation to adaptation, stronger and more capable than we think and very flexible, their world does not end because of the change in routine “.
For Dulce and Mariana, mothers of a son respectively, one of their greatest discoveries is the resilience that their children have shown , and the ease with which they understood the seriousness of the situation and understood that it was everyone’s job to take care of us.
Karmen, who has teenage children, was struck by her children’s sense of responsibility to protect their grandparents and concern for the health of their friends, showing that above all, people are most important to them .
And in the case of Leslie, we touched on the economic issue, which undoubtedly affected many families and for which her daughter showed a lot of understanding, understanding that the situation had become complicated and there were things that for the moment they could not afford to acquire.
On the other hand, Natalia had to say goodbye to her father, and her 10-year-old daughter taught her that despite no longer being with them and not being able to fire him as they would have liked, they could remember their grandfather with a smile and thank the time that they shared together.
They need very little to be happy
And finally, something that we have repeated on several occasions: how simple and simple the happiness of children is . Their innocence and capacity for wonder allows them to understand the great value of little things.
Miry, for example, noticed that her three-year-old son is really happy to be able to dance and listen to music , and that despite the confinement he does not lose his smile or energy.
Nalleli, for her part, discovered something similar, realizing that her five-year-old daughter only needs to sing and dance to be happy, which results in a precious joy that ends up infecting others.
For Silvia, who is the mother of three children and is always looking to make plans to surprise them and have unforgettable experiences, the learning was asking them directly what they wanted to do and realizing that they are happy are very simple things , like eating ice cream in winter or have hot dogs for dinner on Christmas Day.
And finally, thanks to her son, Abigail reminds us that the only thing our children really need to be happy is not material things, but us:
” I learned from him that the circumstances do not matter. If you are with your family and supporting us, everything is possible, everything is better. And that life is easier if you put your love and heart into the things you do every day “,
In general, all the mothers who shared their testimony were able to agree that in addition to knowing our children even more, this year also made us receive great life lessons through them .
