"I take my daughter to the women's bathroom": the viral publication of a father who explains his reasons behind this decision

I am not a parent, so I have never found myself in the place of having to choose whether to take my daughter to the men’s bathroom or the women’s bathroom , but I can understand why many parents can have trouble deciding what to do if they are in a public place and need to take your babies or young daughters to the bathroom.

In recent years and with the increase in parents involved in raising their children, we have encountered several complaints, including asking for changing tables to be installed in men’s bathrooms as well. However, although in some places this is already a reality, the truth is that in most places it is not .

Possibly this is why the publication of a father has gone viral, who explains that when taking his young daughter to the bathroom in public places, he chooses to do it in the women’s bathroom, commenting on his reasons for making this decision.

This publication has been made on his Instagram account Chronicles of Daddy, where he shows a photograph in which he and his daughter appear entering the women’s bathroom .

As a father who goes out into public places with his daughters, I never thought that the bathroom would become as big a problem as it is now. Usually we would go to places that have FAMILY restrooms that are intended for people with children, but what I found was that most places don’t have them and dads have to decide between taking their daughters to the men’s room or the toilet. of women.

When I first encountered this decision, I did what most men would do, that is, I went to the men’s room. Now, I’ve been to a men’s room a million times, but walking in with your daughter makes you look completely different. Men’s restrooms are disgusting. They smell like pee and nothing is prepared for a woman or a person with a child.

The changing table is right next to the urinal, which means my daughter would literally be next to where men pee. Not to mention, there are men who come and go while you are there.

After doing that once, I decided that I would never take my daughter to the men’s room again. I use the ladies room when I go out with them. They are too young to go alone, so I have to go with them.

I try to be as respectful as possible to women while I do it, which means I knock on the door before entering and announce that I am there. I make sure that if there are people inside, they know that I am a dad coming with his daughter and that they are comfortable with that.

Now, once inside our cubicle, I keep keeping an eye on the door and every time I hear it open and someone new walks in, I announce myself again to make sure they know I’m inside with my daughter and don’t be surprised.

The women’s bathrooms are much cleaner and are perfect in case you go with children. The changing table is usually secured inside one of the cubicles, rather than just being outdoors and is always clean.

As a dad to a little girl I can’t help but want to protect my daughter from all the things that aren’t for her and the men’s room is 100% one of those things. I’m the only one? Ladies, how does this make you feel?

The publication of this father got many reactions on Instagram and has been applauded by many people, especially women who agree with what he says and mention that it would not bother them or make it uncomfortable for a father to enter the women’s bathroom with his daughter .

As I mentioned at the beginning, I had never thought about this, because since I am the mother of a girl, we always both go to the women’s bathroom. But I fully understand this father’s feeling of protection towards his little girls, and personally I wouldn’t mind if a father entered the ladies’ room because his little daughter needs it.

The FOMO effect (Fear Of Missing Out) is defined as "the fear of missing something". And although it is a concept that has become relevant in recent years, it is nothing new. In the late 1990s, Dr. Dan Herman coined this term.

We live surrounded by technology and it is inevitable that this will be incorporated as one more tool in parenting. In addition to apps that help with things ranging from designing your baby's room to managing the calendar of children with separated parents, devices such as tablets, mobile phones or smart speakers are here to stay. Proof of this is the growing use of Alexa as a timer that children obey without question (or at least without protesting as much as their mother).
