Corona crisis: The RKI's current case numbers drop significantly

There can be no talk of an easing of the corona crisis yet. But a look at the current case numbers of the RKI on Sunday is cautiously optimistic.

Berlin – Positive news in the middle of the Corona crisis. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), all important case numbers of the RKI have decreased. This applies both in comparison to the previous day and in comparison to the previous week.

According to the RKI, 42,055 people in Germany were infected with the Sars-Cov-2 pathogen within a period of 24 hours. On Saturday (December 5th, 2021) the RKI had reported 64,510 new infections. Since even after two years of the corona crisis, not all health authorities are still transmitting their data to the RKI at the weekend, low numbers are often misleading, especially on Sundays. Therefore, especially on the weekends, the comparison with the figures from the previous week is useful. A decline can also be observed here. A week ago, the RKI had reported 44,401 new infections with the corona virus.

Corona in Germany: RKI reports falling incidence

Due to the decline in the daily number of cases in the Corona crisis, the seven-day incidence is also falling. According to the RKI, it is now 439.2. On Saturday (December 5th, 2021) the RKI had given the corona incidence as 442.7. A week ago the value was 446.7.

This means a decrease in the incidence, but the value of new infections per week and 100,000 inhabitants is still very high. A month ago the RKI had given the incidence as 169.9.

Corona case numbers: overview of new infections, deaths and incidence

Friday (03.12.2021) 74.352 | 390 | 442.1
Thursday (02.12.2021) 73.209 | 388 | 439.2
Wednesday (01.12.2021) 67.186 | 446 | 442.9

Sunday (11/28/2021) 44,401 | 104 | 446.7

The case numbers of the RKI can differ from those of the individual federal states. One reason for this is the longer transmission routes between the RKI and the responsible health authorities. The RKI’s Covid-19 dashboard can also be adjusted during the day.

94 people have died in the past 24 hours in connection with a corona infection. That is significantly less than the day before. The RKI had reported 378 deaths in connection with Covid-19. Exactly one week ago, the RKI had to report 104 deaths within a period of 24 hours.

Since the beginning of the corona pandemic and the RKI recording the current case numbers, a total of 103,040 people in Germany have died in connection with a corona infection. A total of 6,158,125 people in Germany were infected with Corona during this period. (Daniel Dillmann)
