Last year, unsurprisingly, the SARS-CoV-2 “coronavirus” topped the list of search trends globally . This year, the most trending global searches focused on other topics despite the fact that we remain in a state of global pandemic. In the United States, for example, news and politics attracted more attention than health issues: terms like “NBA”, “DMX”, “Gabby Petito”, “Kyle Rittenhouse” and “Brian Laundrie” were the five terms most wanted in America.
And in Spain?
This has been the most searched on Google in 2021 in our country:
On December 8, Google released its annual “Google in Search” list.
The list gives an idea of the top trends in search terms and what those numbers look like compared to the previous year.
Note that the lists are based on search terms whose highest peak occurred this year compared to the previous year, so terms that were not searched before have many more options to appear this year.
According to CNN Business, in 2021, online searches for sports and entertainment returned to normal.
In 2020, the term “coronavirus”, as we have commented before, far exceeded the rest of searches.
While in 2021 the main searches in Spain were “time tomorrow”, Eurocopa, La Liga, Real Madrid, Roland Garros, Volcán La Palma, Bonoloto, Mbappé, Atlético de Madrid and NBA.
Regarding audiovisual entertainment, the massive search for Netflix’s worldwide hit “The Squid Game” stands out, which despite being released in September, rose very very quickly on the list.
The Spaniards were especially interested in knowing “why a volcano erupts”, “why the light rises” or “why Messi is leaving.”
Worldwide , Google has also unveiled other curious searches.
This year, BTS and other K-pop stars included sign language in their choreography, so the world looked more than ever for “I love you” in sign language.
The world also searched for pirate songs like never before in the history of Google Trends.
Searches for how to start a business outnumbered those for how to get a job.
In 2021, “soul mate” was more sought after than ever around the world.
And searches for how to protect the planet reached their all-time highs around the world.
