Survey: majority do not understand corona protests – AfD supporters mostly do

The majority express a lack of understanding, but every third person understands people who protest against the Corona measures. In the case of AfD supporters, it is even 75 percent.

While understanding and incomprehension are roughly in balance among the FDP voters (43 to 40 percent), rejection prevails in the other camps.

It can be seen most clearly among the party members of the Greens (no understanding: 70 percent; understanding: 24 percent), followed by those of the SPD (no understanding: 68 percent; understanding: 23 percent), the CDU / CSU (no understanding: 67 percent) Percent; understanding: 24 percent) and the left (no understanding: 55 percent, understanding: 32 percent).

Members of the denominations: 49 percent of the Free Churches generally understand protests

Among the members of the denominations, the Protestants from the regional church are particularly critical of the demonstrations: 68 percent have no understanding for the participants. For Catholics it is 55 percent. A completely different picture emerges with the Free Churches: 49 percent of them generally understand the protesters, 35 percent do not.

For the survey, 2,107 adults were interviewed between January 7th and 10th. An online access panel was used for this. This method is not without controversy in social research, since only people with internet access can participate. An online access panel also requires a special effort on the part of the opinion research institute so that the survey is representative of the general population.
