Today we bring good news for the babies of the Region of Murcia. He has opened a new breast milk bank that has begun to function at the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Clinical Hospital and that will help save the lives of many babies.
This bank joins the 15 human milk banks that are in operation in Spain throughout the national territory, thanks to which thousands of newborns benefit each year.
A new bank that will save lives
There is no doubt that breast milk is the best food for a baby. It not only provides nutrients, but also acts as a protective shield against infection and disease.
So when the mother, for whatever reason, cannot give it to her baby, donating from other mothers is key to saving lives. The main recipients will be premature babies, but also babies admitted with different pathologies that can benefit from this “intelligent liquid”.
The WHO recommends that, when the mother’s own milk is not available, pasteurized milk from donor mothers is the best option for feeding the neonate.
#Sacapecho: a bank that collects and gives life
To publicize this new milk bank in the Region of Murcia and promote donation and solidarity among nursing mothers, a great altruistic campaign has been created by the Germinal agency called “Take out breast” , which aims to change the stereotypical perception of the female breast .
The idea is focused on comparing “traditional” banks, where money is kept, with human milk banks, where even more important things are kept. The texts that accompany the graphs are not wasted.
If you want to be a donor
To be a donor, you must meet certain requirements: be a nursing mother or have suffered a gestational loss, maintain healthy lifestyle habits, that at least two weeks have passed since delivery and that your baby is less than one year old.
The mother must call 968 369 031 for a first interview to which she must go with her ID and health card. An analysis will be carried out and if suitable, you will be informed of the entire donation and collection process.
