5 censored, banned and canceled movies in the history of cinema.

In the history of the seventh arts there are films that are canceled because of the story they tell. Normally it goes hand in hand with the crudeness of the images or to offend certain groups, but is it correct to prohibit their reproduction? Fiction should not, as a rule, always have to be comfortable to watch. On the other hand, being a mass media it is often more exposed to this problem than other arts. Below we can see 5 examples of films that have been canceled, banned and censored in some countries. 1- “Clockwork Orange” Clockwork Orange (Warner Bros) Stanley Kubrick was a born provocateur, a different director who ventured into different genres telling uncomfortable stories, always under a unique style. A Clockwork Orange is considered one of the most violent films in the history of cinema. It was censored in more than 4 countries for a story in which the protagonists were criminals and criminals capable of committing a whole series of attacks and crimes without the slightest feeling of guilt. Far from creating antagonists starting from a human base with which the public could identify, Alex and his “droogs” terrorized the thousands of spectators who ventured in their day to attend the premiere of the film. Although it is true that nowadays it would not be so controversial, because it was a work completely ahead of its time.2- “Cannibal Holocaust” “Cannibal Holocaust” (FD) This Italian-Colombian production of the 80s directed by Ruggero Deodato It was an Italian box office success, which affected the rest of the countries in its censorship. The film was controversial not only because of the cannibalism itself, since it also contains scenes of sexual violence against animals, which is why it was part of the censored films and that it had great controversies in countries such as England and Australia. Even so, the view of the fans speaks of a social criticism about the cruel nature of the human being and not as an obvious apology for violence. 3- “The last temptation of Christ” “The last temptation of Christ” (Columbia Pictures ) Among the large number of censored films in the history of cinema, there are several that fall within the religious group. The sentiment and devotion of a religion is one of the most delicate issues for certain sectors and types of public. What is paradoxical in The Last Temptation of Christ is that its director, Martin Scorsese is a believer, I confess that he was on the verge of being a priest in his youth. In the work (which warns at the beginning that it is a fictional story) Scorsese portrays, starting from the homonymous novel by Nikos Kazantzakis, a Jesus Christ full of limitations and weaknesses. 4- “The battleship Potemkin” «The battleship Potemkin »(Mosfilm) Considered one of the best films in history, Sergei Eisenstein’s work was not without controversy due to its ideological context. The production describes the rebellion of the battleship’s crew, in a clear example of a good image of the communist ideology. In its day it was censored in more than 10 countries for fear that this story would motivate certain sectors of their respective nations.5- “Freaks” “Freaks” (Bloombgarden Films) How accustomed we are to seeing only the glamorous and aesthetically attractive side of actors and characters in the world of cinema.Freaks, Tod Browning’s film recounted life in a traveling circus with its characters suffering from totally real malformations. At the Venice festival in 1962 it was re-released considering it as a relevant story, but at the time it was banned both in England and the United States for being obscene to the public.
