After the NBC network canceled the broadcast of the 2022 gala, due to apparent complaints of discrimination and abuse in the cinema, as well as the lack of diversity in the organization, they have led to the development of a new code of conduct.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA, in English) announced on Monday that it will accelerate the reform of its regulations and will admit new members from this summer, after the NBC network canceled the broadcast of the 2022 gala.
The organization in charge of delivering these increasingly discredited awards will begin this week a round of consultations with publicists and Hollywood studios to develop a new code of conduct, while interviewing new candidates to join their ranks.
According to the calendar published by the HFPA, the arrival of at least 20 new members will take place in August, the month in which a new board of directors will be voted.

This calendar comes hours after the chain that broadcast the Golden Globes since 1996, NBC, confirmed that it will not broadcast the ceremony until the organization solves the accusations of corruption, malpractice and lack of diversity.

The channel’s decision has been applauded by more than a hundred advertising firms , on both sides of the Atlantic, who had already announced a boycott that was joined by Hollywood heavyweights such as Warner Bros., Netflix and Amazon Studios.
Additionally, Hollywood stars such as Scarlett Johansoon and Mark Ruffalo had openly called for the film industry to drop these awards. Tom Cruise was the last to join the protest after announcing that he will return the three Golden Globes he won in previous years.
The association has received countless complaints of dubious ethical practices so that its members, among whom there are people who do not even work in the media, have taken advantage of trips and other promotional opportunities offered by Hollywood studios.
Last February, days before the last ceremony, the Los Angeles Times published an investigation that uncovered an influence peddling network in which the HFPA had not admitted new members for years, despite the fact that they were among its ranks. There are only 86 people.

The Time’s Up group, which on other occasions has denounced discrimination and abuses in the world of cinema, then lamented the lack of diversity of the organization , which did not have any black person among its members.
The letter was endorsed by Hollywood heavyweights such as JJ Abrams (“Star Wars”), Amy Schumer and Kerry Washington.
