This English term, which can literally be translated as 'sneaker head', defines those people obsessed with collecting that type of footwear, always in search of the most exclusive models. It is a quite expensive hobby, which focuses on sports creations aimed especially at basketball and skateboarding , and on listed brands, such as Nike, Reebok, Supra, Adidas, Jordan, Saucony and Asics.
That of sneakerheads is a fashion that, like so many others, originated during the 80s in that mecca of consumerism that continues to be the United States , closely linked to basketball and to the star moment that Michael Jordan lived around then, around whom he emerged in 1985 model of Nike Air Jordans sneakers. It was also the result of the environment that surrounded the success of hip-hop, an artistic movement that projected a whole social status on this type of footwear.
The phenomenon, as expected, crossed borders, and in the last decade its implantation in countries of recent capitalism, such as China and the Czech Republic, is remarkable. The industry has been able to take advantage of the pull of this subculture. And thus more stylized collections emerged, designed to feed these collector cravings , such as the aforementioned Air Jordans, Nike Air Force 1, Nike Skateboarding and Nike Dunks.
These are limited productions, which increases its exclusivity and its price, equally fattened depending on the color, which when painted by hand gives rise to exorbitant figures. First-rate brands, such as Nike and Reebok, have opened specialized stores in this collection.
