The European city in which it is more expensive to open the tap is Glasgow (United Kingdom), where the bill reaches 5.28 euros per cubic meter. They are followed by The Hague (Holland), with € 4.65; Berlin (Germany), with € 4.63; Luxembourg, with € 4.61; and Copenhagen (Denmark), with € 4.52. Curiously, in Spain, despite being a country with few water resources, the rates are among the lowest in the European Union.
The reason is because the price is calculated based on the operating costs of the service and not on the investments, which are traditionally included in the General Budgets of the State, the autonomous communities or local entities. By cities, the most expensive is Barcelona (€ 2.44 / m3) , followed by Las Palmas (2.04), Seville (1.92), Madrid (1.41), Malaga (1.32) and Bilbao ( 1.22).
In this way, the water bill for a Spaniard only represents 0.8% of the family budget, a percentage of the lowest in Europe and much lower than other services such as telephone or electricity. For the price of a beer, you pay for two and a half days of running water in a three-person house.
