The big day has arrived. 126 days later the traffic light was turned off again to start the Qatar MotoGP GP, where tire management was key due to the high temperatures. Maverick Viñales did it wonderfully and took the first win of the season, ahead of Johann Zarco and Pecco Bagnaia. The Spaniard started from third position and ended up winning the race. Pecco, who started from pole, started shooting from the beginning followed by the other three Ducati (Miller, Zarco and Jorge Martín). Precisely Jorge Martín starred in the best start, going from fourteenth to fourth position. The Yamaha started from the front row but they started quite badly and fell several positions. The majority of the race was dominated by the Ducati, with Zarco keeping up with Pecco’s pace. As the laps went by, Miller and Martín were losing positions and Quartararo and Maverick began their comeback. The two teammates began to advance one by one to all until they reached the podium positions, once there Viñales took the opportunity to overtake his teammate and pull forward. Mack had more pace than the Frenchman and he looked capable of going for the win. The Spanish rider shot and with eight laps left he managed to overtake Pecco Bagnaia’s Ducati. From there it was sewing and singing. He got in first and started to shoot until he got enough distance to finish crossing the checkered flag in first position, although the image of the race was that of the Ducati beating Joan Mir on the finish line. The world champion started from the tenth position, but little by little, stealthily, he traced back and managed to reach the podium positions. On the last lap he managed to overtake Zarco and placed second.Mir dreamed of second place, but a mistake in the last corner caused the Ducati to stick to his wheel and overtake him on the straight. In the end he was left without a podium and finished fourth. Zarco and Bagnaia asserted the power of the Ducati and beat the Balearic on the home straight to complete the podium, while Álex Márquez crashed into turn four as he struggled to enter the top 10. The youngest of the Márquez family could not have started in a worse way in his debut with LCR, while Pol Espargaró was eighth in his debut with the Honda.
