What is entomophagy?

This is the name given to the habit of eating or feeding on insects . The insects are consumed mainly in tropical countries, but also in China, Japan and Mexico. What's more, many are considered authentic delicacies. Some recipes based on these arthropods are named "traditional delicacies" in the 1992 Malawi Cookbook, including grilled palm weevil larvae as well as roasted termites . The most caloric edible insect is the weaver ant of the species Oecophylla smaragdina, which lives in Australia and has a striking green color on its abdomen.

That entomophagy is repulsive to us Westerners could be due, according to the FAO, to the fact that the development of sedentary agriculture made our ancestors perceive insects as a threat to food production. And therefore it is a cultural question.
