German and Czech researchers recently discovered that 275 molecules are enough to initiate crystallization and the transition from liquid water to ice . If you add another 200 more, you can even see frozen water nanocrystals, as the scientists published in the journal Science . In other words, in the range of 275 to 475 water molecules, the phase changes from unstructured and amorphous groups to crystalline groups.
In addition, the infrared spectrum of these tiny structures has revealed that they have the same characteristics as those of macroscopic ice samples.
