What is salivaomics?

It involves the study of the biomolecules present in saliva, both proteins, DNA and RNA , which offer a fairly complete view of the biology and genomics of a specific individual. According to David Wong, from the University of California in Los Angeles (USA), thanks to the latest scientific findings, saliva has become a liquid as useful as blood when assessing the health of an individual , which also counts with enormous potential for early detection of cancer, autoimmune diseases, diabetes and other disorders. As if that were not enough, it allows you to follow the evolution of certain treatments. And all this with the enormous advantage that obtaining a saliva sample is very fast and cheap.

According to Wong in an article published in the Journal of the American Dental Association , taking into account that the number of Americans who visit their dentist regularly is 20% of that of subjects who go to the primary care doctor, dentists could play a key role in the health system taking saliva samples to identify certain pathologies early.

Why 1 year in dogs is not equal to 7 human years

The study of DNA offers us the opportunity to compare the age of dogs with that of humans, with greater precision, thanks to the epigenetic clock.

They discover a living descendant of Sitting Bull

The confirmation that Sitting Bull has a living great-grandson has been made possible using DNA from the hair of the great Sioux chief. It is the first time such a feat has been accomplished.
