Have you ever wondered why you haven't seen an elephant dancing the tango in Thailand or cha-cha on the African plains? The question was raised in one of the talks given each year by the Royal Institution of Great Britain, which in 2010 addressed, among other things, the reasons why size does matter when it comes to animal behavior.
The answer, according to the BBC, is that although they are one of the largest and most charismatic animals on Earth, elephants' legs are so heavy that they cannot change direction quickly . For this reason, pachyderms, capable of running at speeds close to 40 kilometers per hour, cannot jump or perform complex movements. So, for lack of grace, the dance is ruled out.
