Human beings are the only mammals capable of crying and shedding tears when faced with an emotional stimulus . Until now, science has not been able to explain why our sadness, pain and happiness are often accompanied by tears. However, there are certain theories in this regard.
For example, some anthropologists suggest that it was originally a defense mechanism against panic situations, in order to have clean eyes and thus "see" the flight or confrontation more clearly. Among other explanations, scientists consider that crying could help to remove stressful chemicals from the body, which would explain its "relaxing effect."
