It is located in the planetary Boomerang nebula, which is 5,000 light years from Earth. This nebula is a true stellar geriatric, as it houses ordinary stars, like the Sun, in the final phase of their existence. To measure its temperature precisely, a team of American astrophysicists has obtained a series of infrared images of Boomerang with the help of telescopes. Measurements indicate that the nebula is two degrees Celsius below that of the trail called the cosmological diffuse background, a fossil radiation that has inundated the universe since its dawn; and one degree above absolute zero (-273 ºC) , the lowest possible temperature.
The reason Boomerang is colder than other nebulae of its kind could be in its dying star, which loses its mass 100 times faster than other terminal stars and spits out incandescent gases and particles at speeds in excess of 500,000 km / h. . This causes a brutal expansion that cools the gas like a "cosmic refrigerator".
