Acetylsalicylic acid, the famous aspirin – over time, the commercial name given by Bayer laboratories to this substance has become widely used – is one of the most famous and widely consumed drugs in the world, especially for its properties as analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory . Precisely, this last characteristic could also make it easier for some women who cannot to get pregnant.
A team of researchers from different US institutions coordinated by experts from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the University of Utah has announced that women with systemic inflammation who take 81 milligrams of aspirin daily are 17% more likely to stay pregnant and 20% more than the pregnancy comes to fruition .
As indicated in the journal The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism , to determine this they studied the evolution of 1,228 women between 18 and 40 years old who maintained this inflammatory condition and had suffered a spontaneous abortion in the last year.
However, some scientists point out that the conclusions of this work should be taken with caution . On the one hand, this compound can have adverse effects in some cases – it contributes to the development of ulcers, in certain circumstances. Also, while the study linking aspirin intake to an increased chance of becoming pregnant is theoretically correct, it could be argued that quitting tobacco, exercising, and eating a healthy diet do the same. In any case, it is always better to consult with family doctors.
