Of all the contraceptive procedures that exist for the prevention of pregnancy, both reversible and irreversible, vasectomy is an extremely effective and permanent method for men . It is an intervention that has been used for many years and has very few side effects. Now a team of experts has conducted a study to prospectively evaluate the effect of vasectomy on couples’ sex lives.
The researchers, led by Dr. Badereddin Mohamad Al-Al, conducted a study with 76 couples with a mean age of 37 years for women and 39 years for men , who had previously completed a series of questionnaires before and after the intervention. surgical The questionnaires were based on the international index of erectile function for men and the index of sexual function for women. As an added fact, the majority of couples participating in the study had used, prior to the operation, the contraceptive pill method as a pregnancy prevention procedure.
The analysis of the results revealed that of the 76 couples, 93% of the men would have a vasectomy again and 96% of their female partners would recommend the intervention . Regarding postoperative pain, the mean was 3.5 points on a scale from 0 to 10. Regarding sexual function, women showed a significant improvement in desire , arousal, orgasm, lubrication and sexual satisfaction , evidencing the positive impact of vasectomy on sexual life.
The study has been published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine .
