The widespread cliché that men cannot multitask could be scientifically based. A group of American scientists has discovered that the brains of men and women are structured differently, the first being more optimal in communication within the same hemisphere and the second, in communication between both. This evidence would explain the difference in skills due to gender, which makes men more efficient in the execution of isolated tasks and women, in that of different simultaneous tasks .
To verify such structural features, the study authors observed brain activity in individuals of all ages through magnetic resonance imaging. Their results concluded that from the age of 13, important differences in neuronal connectivity between both sexes increase . Males have greater connectivity between the front and back of the brain and between the different regions of each hemisphere, which favors their ability to perceive (back) and coordinate (frontal lobe). Women, on the other hand, have greater connectivity between the two hemispheres, which enhances analytical and intuitive ability.
” There is a higher proportion of myelinated fibers in the cerebral hemispheres of men, which suggests that they are optimized for communication within each hemisphere. However, the brains of women are prepared for communication between hemispheres,” explain the researchers according to the scientific news agency SINC.
This finding offers a biological substrate for the differences in the behavior of both sexes, and converts a multitude of sexist topics into behavior patterns innate to the individual’s sexuality.
