The longer a man's ring finger is compared to his index finger , the more attractive women consider him, according to a study published in the British Royal Society journal Biological Sciences. The results reveal a connection between men's fetal exposure to certain hormones and the development of certain physical traits related to sexual attractiveness.
Previous studies show that the ratio of the fourth to the second finger of the hand, especially of the right hand, is a reliable indicator of a man's exposure to the hormone testosterone during pregnancy in the womb. In the new study, Camille Ferdenzi, from the University of Genoa, designed an experiment in which 80 women, aged between 18 and 34, looked at pictures of 50 men and assessed their "masculinity" and attractiveness. The results showed that the subjects with the longest ring finger had the highest scores . Furthermore, attractiveness and facial symmetry were also closely related.
The ratio of size between the ring finger and the index finger is also a useful indicator to assess the risk of prostate cancer, linked to high levels of testosterone.
