Theelectromagnetic waves from mobile phonescouldto preventtheAlzheimer diseaseand even reverse its course, according to a study conducted by scientists at the University of South Florida (USA) and published in the journalJournal of Alzheimer Disease.
In experiments with a hundredmicelocked for nine months in a cage and exposed for two hours a day toelectromagnetic wavesidentical to those generated by amobile phone antenna, Gary Arendash and his colleagues showed that these waveseliminated and prevented the formation of the beta amyloid protein layerscharacteristics of Alzheimer’s disease. The rodents, despite having been genetically modified to develop the disease, remained totally healthy. Their memory was unaffected and they also showed no signs of dementia. In the older mice that had memory problems, these disappeared.
The discovery caught Arendash by surprise, who started the project convinced that it would show that cell phone waves accelerated the brain deterioration that accompanies the disease. “The last thing we expected was to find a positive effect.”
His challenge now is to establish the best combination of electromagnetic waves to prevent the aggregation of beta-amyeloid places and eliminate the deposits already formed in the brain. ? If we succeed, this technology could quickly translate into atreatment for Alzheimer’s patients? says Chuanhai Cao, a co-author of the study. It is currently estimated that36 million people suffer from this type of dementia.
