OnePlus, close to the greats with its smartphone with more AI

Careful! Looking down, seeing the competition arrive, should not be very comfortable. Competition in the smartphone market is tightening. And now OnePlus also arrives, one of the applicants with the most ballots to give more of a headache to the greats with its new flagship, the 6T.

Before talking about OnePlus 6T, the star smart terminal of the Chinese brand that was presented yesterday in New York -after they had to advance the presentation one day due to the coincidence with another Apple event-, I would like to explain the origin of this a company that today has a legion of 5 million registered users in the world in 196 countries, half a million of them in Spain.

OnePlus is only five years old. It was in 2013 when Pete Lau, a Chinese executive who became vice president of Oppo Electronics and one of the main promoters of CyanogenMod – an Android-based operating system – created his own company to develop, as he said, “more beautiful and more beautiful smartphones. of higher quality ”.

With only six employees, Lau also insisted on reducing the costs of his smart devices and made the decision to sell his first smartphone solely online. That first team, OnePlus One, was manufactured at Oppo’s facilities, and it also chose the same operating system that it helped to develop at Oppo, CyannogenMod, to launch it on the market in April 2014. The terminal could only be purchased by invitation, and its price was between 299 and 349 euros. Not a single euro was spent on advertising or marketing, and they were sold, due to that innovative system that only allowed them to be purchased if another buyer invited the next one, a million in eight months.

Yesterday, in New York, OnePlus presented its 6T model. A team that has smart features and functionalities that have nothing to envy other flagship devices from brands such as Samsung or even Apple. And it is also a pioneer in the introduction of systems such as unlocking through the fingerprint sensor installed on the terminal’s own display. Only the Huawei Mate 20 Pro has this technology, although surely in the coming months there will be more manufacturers that will integrate it. Others, like Apple, have scorned the use of the fingerprint in their new iPhone Xs, Xs Max and Xr, as a function to unlock the smart phone, setting everything to its proprietary Face ID technology.

One Plus, in order to develop its fingerprint sensor on the 6T screen, has eliminated the headphone jack and relocated some of the internal elements of the device to make room for an optical module that carries a lens, and that is what reads the user’s fingerprint. The biometric information from the fingerprint is transferred to the equipment’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, which processes the data locally to authenticate the user. According to OnePlus, and we have tested it in cold and rainy conditions, the sensor works efficiently in extreme conditions and even in low light, and the smartphone unlocks in just 0.34 seconds. When the fingerprint is placed on the sensor, blue and green lights can be seen around it, which according to OnePlus are the colors that best collect and recognize the fingerprint.

Also the OnePlus 6T has facial recognition, but in this case it is only 2D. Although it works quite quickly and in low light situations, it is not as safe or accurate as the 3D systems used by the new Apple and Huawei smartphones. However, despite being only 2D, the OnePlus system uses 100 identifiers from the user’s face to unlock the smart device. And it does it, after also checking its operation, with great efficiency and without failures.

The new equipment developed by Pete Lau’s company has a 16 megapixel front camera, with an f / 2.0 aperture and that records video at a resolution of 1080P at 30 frames per second (fps); and two rear cameras of 16 and 20 megapixels with aperture of f / 1.7, 4K resolution and video recording at 30/60 fps.

Although the same hardware as the OnePlus 6 is maintained in the 6T model, it has a new artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm that will delight photography lovers to bring out all its possibilities to the camera. For example in object and scene recognition; in night photography and low light conditions; in portrait with the effect of depth or bokeh that is so fashionable; in selfies and images that will look more natural than usual thanks to AI; and with definition High Definition Range (HDR) and video recording in super slow motion or super slow motion at definitions of 1080p and 240 fps or 720p at 480 fps. Throughout the article I expose some of the images taken with the OnePlus 6T, such as portrait with depth effect, night, selfies or normal photography without effects.

The new OnePlus 6T integrates the customization layer of the Chinese brand, Oxygen OS, and has a 3,700 Mhz battery, which does not reach the 4,000 or 4200 Mhz of the smart devices of other brands but that does have a technology proprietary that allows fast charging in just 30 minutes thanks to the fact that a smart chip that dissipates heat is integrated in the charger.

On this occasion, the lucky ones who can acquire the OnePlus 6T will be more. Before being officially sold in the Spanish market on November 6, users will be able to purchase the new OnePlus 6T on October 31 in person at the two pop-up stores installed in Madrid (calle Montesa, 39) and in Barcelona (Fnac from El Triangle). In Spain, users will be able to reserve their new OnePlus 6T through Amazon, Pc Components and FNAC on October 29 from 5:30 p.m., for reception on November 6. The price? From 549 euros the version with 6 MB of RAM AND 128 GB of data, up to 629 euros for the version with 8 MB of RAM and 256 GB of data.
