Pilot, a simultaneous translation headset

Do languages resist you and every time you go on a trip outside of Spain you see them and you want them to understand what they are saying to you? Well, maybe that problem has its days numbered .

The Pilot is a smart device that translates conversations between people who speak two different languages almost instantly. It is capable of translating four languages: English, French, Spanish and Italian; and it is planned that in the future it will also incorporate others such as Arabic or Hebrew

The American company Waverly Labs is behind this project that will soon be launched in search of financing, through the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform , to be able to produce and commercialize the wearable . This has been designed by Andrew Ochoa, founder and CEO of the start-up .

The reason that led Ochoa to design this contraption, which he has been developing for two years, was that he met a French girl and neither she spoke English nor he French – Ochoa himself explains it in the video that you can see at the end of this article. .

During the first stage of the crowdfunding campaign, this wearable technology, which will be available in three colors, will sell for $ 129 (about 116 euros) . If the company manages to raise the money it needs to go ahead with the project, the first devices will reach their buyers at the end of this year or in the first half of 2017. The price at which they could be acquired after the crowdfunding campaign would be among the 249 and 299 dollars (between 223 and 268 euros approximately).

The kit includes two wireless headphones –one for each person–, equipped with a microphone and a speaker connected via Bluetooth with a smartphone, a charger and also an application that allows almost simultaneous translation: there is a delay of only a couple of seconds, and it is expected that in subsequent set-ups that problem will be solved little by little.
