The Sahara, with an extension of 8.6 million kilometers through North Africa from the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea, always usually presents that characteristic reddish desert color. It is usually hot and dry, but recent snowfalls have caused it to turn white and appear to glow in the sunlight.
It is the fourth time in the last 42 years that it happens, so there is not a usual event. Local photographer Karim Bouchetata took the opportunity to immortalize the moment, photographing and recording videos of a Sahara … a little white.
Although this snow that has fallen in 2021 is not comparable to that that fell in December 2016 or even in January 2018, since the incidence was up to 40.6 centimeters in some places. As if it were a Martian landscape, we have to thank photographers like Bouchetatta who have immortalized the moment, because it is an icy phenomenon that does not usually last long.
