The German Society for Nature Photography (GDT) has announced the winners and finalists of its members' annual contest, GDT Nature Photographer of the Year. All the images submitted to this photo contest show the beauty of the Earth in all its forms. This year, more than 5,000 photos have participated, which the jury reduced to 10 in each of the seven participating categories: Birds, Mammals, Other Animals, Plants and Fungi, Landscapes, Study of Nature and Water.
A field of mushrooms, an inquisitive hare and a mud-covered crocodile are some of the subjects of the impressive photos that have won the best prizes in a wildlife photography contest.
Among all the photographs presented, the crocodile covered in mud is among our favorites. The photograph, included in the category "Other animals", reveals a crocodile hidden in plain sight in a mud puddle, captured by photographer Jens Cullman.
The overall winner of the contest was Peter Lindel, who photographed a European hare in Dortmund. Described as "dreamy, curious, careful, anxious" by the photographer himself, this European hare was spotted just outside Lindel's gate in the fields and meadows north of Dortmund, Germany.
Here are all the winners of the photography contest.
