Just as Niue was declared the first dark sky nation in the world, today we know the first place that has obtained the official “silent park” certificate. It is about Río Zabalo, in Ecuador . This South American country has become the first in the world to build a "quiet park", a lush expanse of land that stretches on both sides of the Zabalo River, where silence is protected as a natural resource.
The world's first certified silent park
As strange as it may sound, there are still virgin areas on our planet that remain practically intact. This Wilderness Quiet Park has no commercial venues or residences or transportation routes. And it is one of the reasons why the organization Quiet Park International , an agency dedicated to spreading tranquility throughout the world, has confirmed this place where natural silence is not in danger of extinction.
" It's like walking into a huge biological clock , where you can almost hear nature ticking. It's a transformative experience," explains Gordon Hempton, ecologist and co-founder of Quiet Parks International, to American Way magazine.
