The breathtaking beauty of our natural world is displayed in this exhibition.Young, emerging and professional photographers alike demonstrate impeccable timing, patience, artistry, and technique to capture extraordinary moments in time. This is what the contest also celebratesAustralian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year, organized by theSouth Australian Museum.

Photographers from around the world are invited to submit their wildlife and nature photography from the bioregion of Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea, where the New Guinea region is bounded to the west by the Wallace Line. (the biogeographic line that runs between Bali and Lombok north through the Makassar Strait between Borneo and Sulawesi). Antarctica includes the subantarctic islands to take the best snapshots.

A forgotten image of a life-and-death “play hide-and-seek” fight has givenTracey Jennings named Australian Geographic Geographic Photographer of the Year award for 2018. Malaysia-based Jennings was diving under the Arborek jetty in Raja Ampat (West Papua and Indonesia), when he saw the perfect moment to snap his snapshot: a chase between predators and prey began.

“I spent a total of about six hours at a depth of less than five meters under the relatively small jetty, and I only got out of there when I finished my second tank of air, long after sunset,” Jennings said.

“This image actually sat on my hard drive for almost a year, and when I was finally done with my images, I found it. I love how the light plays through the fish, and how it really describes the essence of the feeling that I experienced. under the jetty, where life and death play around you, “Jennings clarifies.

Tracey Jennings is the first woman to win this photo contest and her prize was $ 10,000 and an expedition to Antarctica.

The contest recognizes 10 additional categories for all those photos taken in the limited areas for the contest.

The images clearly underscore what unique and diverse part of the world Australia is.
