If it were another species, it would be no more than a mere anecdote or even something normal, but it is really exceptional that triplets of giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) are born, since they have a high mortality rate after childbirth. In addition, it is a threatened species, which gives even more importance to the birth of the three little pandas.
Panda bears are one of the most beautiful mammals on the planet. Their unmistakable glasses and black ears make them unique and even in China, the only country in the world where there are specimens in the wild, it is a true national symbol. However, the destruction of its natural habitat and its reproductive difficulties have brought it to the brink of extinction , with only about 1,600 living specimens and just over 200 in captivity. Hence the importance of this triple birth.
To give birth to the three small pandas, their mother, named Juxiao, spent almost four hours and the cubs weighed 122, 90 and 83 grams . As the general director of the center, Dong Guixin, has assured, these are the only living panda triplets in the world because "the chances that the three cubs would survive the birth were only 1%" .
Although the three pandas were born on July 29 at the Guangzhou Chimelong Safari Park, they have waited until this Tuesday to make the news public after ensuring the more than probable survival of the animals.
