Visit the gallery of Fascinating Plants
They provide oxygen, protect the soil from erosion, give us food in the form of fruits, seeds and roots, adorn our houses, provide cork, medicine and paper … plants are fascinating beings without which our life would not be possible in the Land. For this reason, on May 18 the first International Day of Fascination for Plants will be celebrated.
The event is promoted by the European Organization for Plant Sciences and its objective will be to remind the world that research in the plant world is critically important to society, the environment and the economy. More than 60 scientific institutions, universities, botanical gardens and museums, together with farmers and companies, have announced that they will open their doors to offer the public a wide variety of events and activities.
The initiative will be followed in at least 30 countries and José Pío Beltrán, Spanish researcher at the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) has joined the event's board of directors.
