The international competition organized by the Swiss entity New7Wonders to choose the seven natural wonders of the world is approaching its final phase.
To date, the Kalahari Desert (landscape category), the Galapagos Islands (insular category), Jade Mountain or Yu Shan (mountains and volcanoes), Djavolja Varos (caves and rock formations), Puerto Princesa ( forests, national parks and nature reserves), Lake Titicaca (Algos, rivers and waterfalls) and the Vietnamese Ha-Long Bay.
The first phase of voting will close on July 7, 2009 . At that time, out of the 77 most voted natural enclaves, an international jury will select 21 "finalist" candidates. These will be submitted to a vote on the Internet again until 2011, the year in which the final results will be announced.
The only natural area located in Spain that is included in the current ranking is Sierra Nevada .
