The electrification of the automobile fleet will depend, to a large extent, on the large energy companies. The manufacturers have put the batteries and we already have interesting proposals in the market, both in the electric segment and the plug-in hybrid. The autonomy of these models is no longer the main challenge, but the load times and the infrastructure are still incipient. To make life easier for its customers, Renault has signed a collaboration agreement with Naturgy , included within the Renaulution strategic plan that we tell you about in this link, and which involves the installation of recharging points and the supply of renewable energy.
The Group Renault’s commitment must have the backing of a giant like Naturgy , which is also turning the future of mobility towards electrification. This agreement has two faces: the automobile and the energy. In the first section, Renault will roll out its range of E-TECH vehicles with new additions, both 100% electric and plug-in hybrids. Naturgy’s work will be to promote the installation of charging points and the supply of energy using renewable sources. Sébastien Guigues, CEO of Renault Iberia, and Jorge Barredo, CEO of Renewables, Innovation and New Businesses at Naturgy, have signed the contract that will lead them towards decarbonisation.
Leading agents
The automotive industry has been involved, as never before, in the project of a world with less emissions. In this sense, Renault is one of the pioneering firms, a merit that you want to continue preserving and improving through its new Renaulution strategic plan. According to what was presented by Luca de Meo, current president of the French group , out of a total of 24 new models presented in the coming years, 12 will be 100% electric and another 7 will be electrified .
This commitment is accompanied by another promise: to achieve a zero CO2 impact by 2050 in Europe. What’s more, next year (2022) all the models marketed in the old continent will have an electrified model in their range, be it electric, hybrid or PHEV . An objective for which it will be vital to maintain the Mobilize brand, focused on studying new mobility modalities to respond to the problems of urban displacement.
What will Naturgy do?
Naturgy also has its share of responsibility in this collaboration. The energy company will draw up a distribution map for electric recharging points, a project for which a plan has been submitted to build more than 1,100 points. This official proposal, shown to the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge; the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain, contemplates that these points can commercialize renewable energy. If it is approved and carried out, it would prevent the emission of 760 kTn of CO2 per year .
The idea of this deployment is to open the infrastructure to the entire Spanish territory, offering a sufficiently wide mesh to travel the country with an electric vehicle. In addition, Naturgy’s intention is to take advantage of the existing facilities to connect the recharging points in electrical connections that provide service, for example, to the NGV areas to optimize resources.
