Mazda and sustainable crafts in the 'Circular Community'

A few days ago the exhibition ‘Comunidad Circular’ opened in Dimad (Central de Diseño), located on Paseo de la Chopera in Madrid. This project focuses on the courage and relevance that contemporary crafts have today on the road to sustainability. Recovering manual jobs is essential to reduce our impact on the environment , something that Mazda defends from the very beginning of the development of a new vehicle. For this reason, the participation of the Japanese firm in the exhibition fits perfectly, with the Mazda MX-30 as one of the protagonists of ‘Circular Community’.

The exhibition is named for an obvious reason, it has been organized in a circle so that, as we walk through it, we discover the union between nature and human sensitivity through raw materials, pure forms and timelessness. The MX-30 has a special characteristic compared to the rest of the works exhibited there: it was not built completely by hand. The Hiroshima firm draws on its tradition but has adapted it to the needs of mass production , with what this entails when it comes to involving machinery. However, the skill of their teachers, Takumi, who mold their car designs in clay, ensures that Mazda offers a fluid and emotional design based on the Kodo philosophy.

Proximity crafts

Another unique detail of the MX-30 is that it is not produced in Madrid. The rest of the works exhibited in ‘Comunidad Circular’ have been designed and created, in a traditional way, in a radius of less than 20 kilometers from the capital. In this way, the organizers bet on the artist from Madrid and reduce the ecological impact of having to transfer the projects of these magicians of the imagination. In addition, the materials in this collection are sustainable and recyclable , so that they can be reused to continue reducing the environmental cost of this exhibition.

In order for all the parameters of ‘Circular Community’ to be fulfilled, the Lo Minimimo community has been certifying each step. They themselves have set the guidelines so that the carbon footprint was minimal , taking into account aspects such as the construction system, the use of raw materials, the recycling capacity and the proximity of suppliers.

The MX-30 as part of the exhibition

In this article we explain how the Mazda MX-30 is a vehicle that uses recycled materials such as plastic from bottles. For this reason, among others, Ona Carbonell has decided to be the image of this 100% electric urbanite with a timeless and daring design. Its compact size batteries offer a range of close to 200 kilometers, enough for the daily use of a car that does not intend to leave the cities.

During the development of the MX-30, the Japanese firm took into account all aspects of the SUV’s life cycle . For example, from Mazda they have the objective of minimizing the energy consumed in the assembly and transport of this model, the same as the rest of the components.
