The SUV craze has reached every segment, even those where it makes little useful sense. The taste for this type of bodywork, high and strong lines has been installed in our day to day, to the point of being the most desired for utility cars. Hyundai does not want to be left behind in this relatively new segment, so it launches with a fresh, daring and timely proposition, the Hyundai Bayon . This model may seem familiar from its front but, if you look closely, it retains its own aesthetic personality with a far from discreet rear. It will be built on the Hyundai i20 platform and will share some of its engines with it, but official prices have not yet been made public.
The presence of this Asian brand in our market is only growing, and for good reason. Hyundai has worked hard to adapt its style to European taste, with vehicles designed by and for us. What’s more, they are developed in its headquarters located in the old continent, something that is clearly noticeable in its design, equipment and driving sensations. This time they have done it on a body 4.18 meters long by 1.77 m wide and 1.49 m high , with a wheelbase of 2.58 meters . It is smaller in all its dimensions, compared to a Kona, but its 18 centimeters in height is one of the most notable in the segment.
The interior stands out for the minimalism and digitization seen in the latest Hyundai, with special attention to perceived quality. I really like the four-spoke steering wheel and the central display located in a higher position, so we do not have to look down on the road. Its space is the usual in the segment, better than an i20 but without being its asset. The same happens with the 411-liter boot.
As for engines, for now the introduction of the T-GDi petrol of 100 or 120 hp is known , which can be combined with an automatic transmission. The most powerful version can be purchased with 48V mild hybrid technology and manual transmission. There will also be an 84 hp naturally aspirated engine and five-speed manual gearbox.
