Mobility has changed , as have the needs of Spanish society in the last ten years. Buying a vehicle is no longer a priority, because it is understood that cars are tools at our disposal. Before, young people saved their first salaries to give the entry of the compact with which they dreamed for years. Now, it is enough to have a smartphone and a driving license to be able to access the latest carsharing applications , which offer a very diverse fleet depending on your needs. However, not all are new companies, start-ups or 100% digital platforms in the world of car sharing . There are also companies that have known how to be ahead of their time, showing the client the possibility before it becomes a concept in itself. The same thing Alquiber did more than three decades ago, when no one had heard of renting or leasing. Today, we speak with Jose Ramón Calvo, General Manager of Alquiber, a Spanish company that has earned a space on our roads thanks to professional services, but which is now launching itself to conquer the private client .
José Ramón has 32 years of experience in the vehicle rental sector, another demonstration that it is not a sudden concept. He began his professional career in Fualsa in 1987 as a mechanic, knowing the insides of each department. Then he became the head of delegations and, after the sale of the company to the multinational Northgate Plc, he was part of the integration of the workforce in said agreement. Since the end of 2015 , he has been General Manager at Alquiber, a career that has been key to understanding its essence as a family business, with what this means in times of crisis like the current one. The impact of the pandemic could have done them a lot of damage, with the delivery of vehicles by the thousands, but they faced the moment and came out even stronger.
Today, after betting on not leaving aside its workers and vehicles, Alquiber has more than 10,000 vehicles available. As José Ramón says “It has been a complicated road but we hope to continue growing and to be over 20,000 cars in the next 5 years”, a very optimistic, not utopian thing if we study his path .
