Fiat had prepared the official presentation of its electric 500 for the Geneva Motor Show. March is far away, but not so much. At that time, the largest motor show in Europe had to close its doors in the face of the first wave of coronavirus. A few days ago, the news was similar. Spain is preparing for a new confinement and the Italian firm presents a very special body. The 500e has a new member: the Fiat 500 3 + 1 . It is the same model but with an antagonistic, or suicidal, half door on the passenger side . It is designed to facilitate access to the rear seats and joins the portfolio of the Italian urbanite, which is also available in a conventional silhouette and a convertible. This decision is purely commercial, since the seats behind a 500 are rather testimonial. In this way, Fiat pays tribute to the history of a model that has accompanied us since 1957 .
Its rear side door is the only thing that makes it special. The Fiat 500 3 + 1 continues to measure 3.63 meters long by 1.68 meters wide and 1.52 meters high , with a wheelbase of 2.32 meters. The introduction of this door increases its weight by 30 kilograms and they have had to remove the right central pillar to be able to fit everything. For this reason, the autonomy and performance data are the same. The Fiat 500 3 + 1 has a 118 hp engine, fueled by the energy that comes from a 42 kWh battery. In the rest of the bodywork there is another 95 hp version with a 23.8 kWh battery, but we still do not know if it will be present in the latter’s commercial offer.
Its autonomy is 312 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle but the firm assures that it reaches 460 km in urban circulation. A very interesting scope to compete against other urbanites such as the Seat Mii Electric, the Skoda Citigo iV, the Volkswagen e-Up! or the Honda e. As a curious fact, Fiat put the 500e La Prima on sale in March 2020 and they sold out immediately with a price of 37,900 euros. Currently, this version can be purchased with a wall charger but without the convertible roof. The price for the saloon body is 33,732 euros and we will have to wait to see the 3 + 1.
