COVID-19 has changed all of our plans, also during the summer. The vast majority of Spaniards plan to travel by car, avoiding public transport, boats, trains, and airplanes. Many of them do not want to cross the border, it seems that national tourism can save the ballots for many locals, hotels and businesses that live off the summer season. One option is the routes throughout Europe, adventures that you could do with one of the cheapest campers on the market. If, on the other hand, you prefer to stay enjoying our incredible country, you can choose from the list of the best campsites on the coast of Spain.
Of course, along the way you will have to be careful: many of them are accessed by dangerous roads, in which you must take extreme security measures and which, therefore, are controlled by speed cameras. For this reason, we bring you a list with the 12 radars that most fine in our country, in whose areas you must exercise extreme caution.
According to a study carried out by Associated European Motorists, during the past year 2019 more than 2 million complaints were made for speeding. It seems that the points card system no longer has the desired effect, this type of fines has increased by 13.3% compared to 2018. They also reveal an interesting fact: “of the nearly 1000 that Traffic has deployed on Spanish roads , half accumulated 41.5% of the fines “. Of the 50 radars that fine the most in Spain, 24 have been actively collecting for years while the other 26 have been placed in recent years. The exponential increase in the result of some of these devices is also surprising. For example, the radar located at kilometer 13.3 of the A-4 in Madrid has increased its activity by 3000%.
The most fine radar
Many might think that Catalonia or Madrid monopolize most of the sanctions, due to their high traffic density and mobility, but it is Andalusia, with 23.3% of the complaints made in 2019 . It is followed by the capital with 12.7% of the fines and the Valencian Community with 11.4%. The most compliant drivers are found in La Rioja, Cantabria and Navarra. As you may have noticed, neither Catalonia nor the Basque Country appear on the list, communities that have the traffic areas transferred.
The most amortized radar is the one located at kilometer 478 of AP-7, located at the exit of the Sagunto service area (Valencia) . It accumulates a total of 49,428 complaints compared to the 4,567 filed last 2018. This radar collected 5.82 million euros of the 182.06 total.
It is closely followed by the radar located at km 79.9 of the H-31, in Huelva , with 58,266 infractions detected. This device is already well known by the neighbors but they are still clueless that they fall in their photographs. The third most active radar is in Cuenca , on the A-3 highway, kilometer 156.5. The top 5 is completed by the radar of the A-92, kilometer 83.8, in Seville and the one placed at kilometer 49.2 of the AP-6 near Madrid . The capital also has the sixth most efficient radar planted at kilometer 13.3 of the A-4 and Valencia appears again in seventh position, with the device located at kilometer 5.2 of the V-31. The islands are not saved and the eighth radar is located on the EI-600 road, kilometer 9.6. Madrid completes the list with the box at kilometer 52.7 of the M-40 and that of the A-4 at kilometer 12.4.
And in Catalonia and the Basque Country?
These two communities have transferred the traffic powers so that they make their list apart. According to the AEA, the placement of these radars is not preventing traffic accidents or reducing speed. In the Catalan community , accident victims increased by 15% in 2018, compared to the same period in 2019, and sanctions increased by 37%. The highest collecting radar is on the C-31 , at kilometer 215, it accumulated 124,006 complaints last 2018. The C-17, another exit and entry route to Barcelona, is in second position with 108,066 fines. It is followed by the box located at kilometer 325 of the AP-7, in Tarragona.
The most recent data from the Basque Country take us to 2015. That year the radar located on the AP-68, right at the entrance to Bilbao, won the award, with 17 110 penalties. It was followed by the control located on the A-8, right at the point known as El monolito, towards Santander with 14 939 infractions. The third is in Erandio, on the road leading to Getxo, with 11,363 fines.
This means that, in the sections controlled by the radars, you must exercise caution and respect the speed limits, so as not to endanger your life and that of your loved ones (and, as extra motivation, leave your pocket intact).
