The students of the Industrial Technology subject at the San Patricio School in Madrid have shown that there are challenges, at first glance impossible, that can become a reality if you work collaboratively and as a team. And it is that these students, together with their teacher Manuel Amor and after more than 150 hours of work and 10 new parts, have managed to turn an old Seat 600 gasoline into an electric vehicle, much more ecological and, as a consequence, respectful with the environment. environment. In addition, they have had the help of social networks and the media , which have been their allies to make themselves known and to get all the necessary materials.
Initially, the project was carried out through 3D management software , which allowed digitally capturing what would later be put into practice. Thus, for the manufacture of the parts necessary for the recycling of the car, the students created a milling machine that, through this 3D software, allowed them to create exact templates in wood, and send to a turner those others that they needed to reproduce in other material. During the process, the students have had to create all the pieces from scratch, with the help of techniques that they have learned as the project progressed. Finally, after long hours of work outside of school hours, the persistent students have managed to make the Seat 600 –originally gasoline powered– run only on electricity, with an initial range of about twenty kilometers.
The Seat 600 has been one of the most iconic and beloved cars of all Seat production in the history of our country , since it was the first car for a large majority of Spaniards. On the other hand, many manufacturers are currently trying to improve the efficiency of combustion vehicles, which not only marks the will for change on the part of the motor sector, but also shows a change of consciousness on the part of society. For this reason, it is so important to try to recover classic lines or, directly, electrify existing classics, as in the case of these students from Madrid.
