Trailer for "Birthday cake": A mix between "Los Sopranos" and "After hours"

The Birthday cake trailer shows the return of a gangster movie theater we haven’t seen for a long time. A touch of Scorsese with a hint of the Sopranos is enough to draw the attention of a genre that lives more from its past films than what it lately shows on the big screen. Although it is true that from time to time stories such as The Irishman (2019) or The Delivery (2014) appear, resurrecting the genre with charisma and originality. On this occasion, it is an independent cut film, in which Jimmy Giannopoulos makes his directorial debut and in which Screen Media Films will distribute the project. Actor Shiloh Fernandez plays Gio, who is commissioned to bring the birthday cake to a celebration commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of his father (who died under suspicious circumstances). The one in charge of bringing everyone together is his uncle (Val Kilmer), a Brooklyn mafia boss and just when Gio is about to arrive at the party he witnesses a murder that will force him to accept the reality about his death. father, during a long night of flight and crime. The trailer at times, recalls the production company Uncut Gems and the works of the Safdie brothers, with shots that keep the camera shaky and some attenuated color degradation. The cast of this return of the mafia, in addition to Fernández and Kilmer, runs to by Ewan McGregor, David Mazouz, Ashley Benson, John Magaro, Lorraine Bracco, Vicent Pastore and Joseph D`Onofrio among others. For its part, it seems like the first major starring project by Shiloh Fernandez, which we have seen previously in Infernal Possession And White Bird of the Snowstorm. The point of possible blockbuster impact is given by the stars of Ewan McGregor who is currently in the production of the Obi wan Kenobi and Val Kilmer series, which will be next year Iceman in Top Gun: Maverick. It will premiere on June 18 in North American cinemas and on demand, the date in Spain has not yet been closed, something quite common if we understand the independent court that handles the production.
