If there is a saga that seemed impossible to continue that was the Matrix. A reboot maybe, but a continuation with Neo and Trinity? Let’s remember that both characters died in Matrix revolutions , the third and last installment of the franchise. The urge to resurrect franchises and our hunger for nostalgia fueled Lana Wachowski’s idea to write Matrix 4, a script that will continue the illusory dystopia of human control of machines.
Neo returns but who are the other chosen ones?
When Keanu Reeves was asked why he had decided to reprise Neo almost 20 years later, it seems he was clear that it was because of one of his creators: “Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story that resonated with me. That is the only reason to do it. “ Neo and Trinity will also be joined again by Daniel Bernhardt reprising the role of Agent Johnson and the return of Niobe, a character played by Jada Pinkett Smith. Lambert Wilson will be a Merovingian again , although it has not been confirmed if his vengeful wife Monica Bellucci, Persephone in Matrix reloaded will be by his side this time around.
Among the new additions we have Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who was the husband of Regina King in the Watchmen series and a villain in Aquaman . The possibility of him playing a young version of Morpheus has already been rumored about him, but no one has confirmed it. Also a humorous actor such as Neil Patrick Harris has been added to the cast, highlighting his “intimate filming atmosphere”. The one who will not be there to stand up to Neo will be Hugo Weaving, although with the ability that his agent Smith had to change his body we would not be surprised if it was another actor who played the role.
What history will it have?
The secrecy around the film is absolute, although there are quite crazy theories about whether they are all clones or that Trinity is the new chosen one. The images showing Keanu Reeves’ new shave seem to indicate at least that Neo will have to leave the Matrix to return to the real world.
When can we see it?
In principle, Matrix 4 was intended to be released on May 21, 2021 in the United States, however the pandemic made such a task impossible, but Warner recently advanced the release of the film to December 22, 2021 in theaters but also on HBO due to the simultaneous release strategy of the distributor and producer.
