If you’re dreaming of a White Christmas, we’ve got the party to point you to, and it comes with horse-drawn sleigh rides, live music, dancing, and some vintage costumes. (Fainting!)
The 1940 White Christmas Ball, on December 3, 2016, will attract 2,000 guests with victory rolls and fedoras for a holiday party that seems set in the sage from Irving Berlin’s classic Christmas movie, White Christmas. In a word, it is nostalgic. (And with movie sets, Christmas trees, garlands, a canopy of lights, the airport hangar is a pretty stellar setup to snap some photos for your holiday cards, yes?)
The ball will take place at the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield. The soundtrack, of course, will be big band music, featuring the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra and Hot Tomatoes. Can’t you swing dance? Don’t worry – you can show up early at 4pm for some complimentary dance lessons and learn some fancy footwork before the party starts. (General admission is at 5 pm and the ball goes until 1 am)
But what’s as cool as a nostalgic party in the middle of classic WWII planes and cars? The ball raises money for the 10th Colorado Mountain Division and the Commemorative Air Force. Along with a 1940 World War II Ball held in June at Boulder Airport, the two events have raised $ 68,000 to donate to charities since the events began in 2008.
Entertainment throughout the night includes a Las Vegas tribute show with actors portraying Frank Sinatra, Elvis and Judy Garland. Additionally, there will be a performance by The Satin Dollz, a dance company and tap performance.
“The night will be filled with Christmas carols, big band music, dancing and holiday nostalgia that will delight holiday revelers and ignite the spirit of the season,” says creator Khyentse James.
Even the menu will get you in the holiday spirit. Among the offers? Cinnamon pulled pork sandwiches, sweet potato fries with bourbon glaze, cranberry couscous and grilled cheese with fig pudding with melted brie, mushy fig jam, spiced apples, rosemary sourdough.
Ready to party like it’s 1940? Put together a vintage outfit because there will be a costume contest, with a male and female winner.
